This evening's weird bargain was a pen with a built-in laser pointer... purchased in the pound shop in Church Street market. And yes, the price was a pound. The same shop has recently provided packs of three scissors, calculators, stopwatches, and packs of two magnifying glasses, all at that price. Damned if I know how they do it.

Doubt it. The shop's been there for years, and seems to have new stock constantly. Most of it seems to be made in china / india / etc. and obscure brands. It's one of those shops that specialises in cheap and crappy, but that's okay if all you want is e.g. a cheap calculator that is too big for a kid to pocket, and too ugly for them to want anyway. We used to lose a half-dozen a term, since buying the big pound shop ones we've lost one by breakage and none by theft.

The more curious, trashy, obscure kind of pound store is a fine thing. May I ask *which* Church Street?
