Further to this - now found a copy of Tourmaline's Time Cheques on abebooks - can't think why I didn't look there before, except that Anstey only recently went out of copyright and I've been waiting for that before using his work.

There does seem to be one copy of Fred T. Jane's "The Violet Flame" on sale at amazon.com, but by the time postage etc. is added it's going to be pretty expensive. Amazon.co.uk have another edition at about four times the price! I think I'll try a few other sites first.

Are you familiar with used.addall.com? Searches dozens of used book sites like abebooks, alibris, biblion and so on. Very useful.

Hmm... they have one of the books that interests me at at an almost-affordable price, I've e-mailed the vendor to see if they really do have it.
