I don't actully know So What.

The tune for the original song was written by the composer Malcolm Arnold, who also wrote serious music.

There was a play on Radio 4 a few years ago about Arnold's involvement in the original Hoffnung concerts:

ARNOLD: What are you asking me for? I'm a serious composer.
HOFFNUNG: I did like that thing you did with the schoolgirls.

The piece Arnold wrote for the Hoffnung concerts was his Grand Grand Overture, which has parts for vacuum cleaners, floor polishers and rifles.

Well, I watched it. I'll see what happens. Pop songs usually don't stick for me. (And, for that matter I can't now recall the Gilligan's Island song.)

Incidentally, it amused me to realise that Larkin's They fuck you up, your mum and dad can be sung to the same tune as Tolkien's The Road goes ever on and on.
