Just watching a Timeshift programme called The Last Days of Steam on BBC4, very interesting on the technology of steam engines and their post-war importance, and the construction of a new engine today. It's going to be repeated tomorrow

If not, there, fascinating piece about how the government kept on Steam trains for a while, in case of nuclear war.

I bet we see steam trains returning. Coal and wood are locally sourced within the UK, and when energy costs spike as peak oil declines, I think Steam is going to make a return big time.

Not me - very interesting though, I vaguely remember a teacher saying something about this in the sixties, can't remember the context though.
