Following interviews today, it looks like one of the other technicians here has been appointed as my successor - no official announcement yet, but I've been told verbally, and it's one of two that could do the job. I'm now reasonably confident that things won't fall apart the second I leave, which is a big relief.

Four - usually two on each site. We can just about do the job with three most of the time, but it leaves no slack for illness, unusually busy periods, etc.

What I think may be happening is that the replacement fourth technician will be a trainee, with some sort of long-term training course on day release or whatever we can organise.
