ffutures: (marcus 2013)

Around the end of November I put a bird feeder outside my kitchen window. Nothing went near it for ages, but a couple of weeks ago I noticed a small bird which flew of before I could get a good look, and some seeds spilled on the sill. I've since seen and heard it several times, and it's been getting less shy - today it carried on feeding while I took several photos. Quality isn't as good as I'd like because of the (dirty) glass and reflected flash, but here it is:

There ought to be more using the feeder soon - the tree there will be blossoming sooner or later, which usually brings in the crowds.

And fifteen minutes after posting that there were two birds there - couldn't get a good picture so far :-(

Ah, a slightly bedraggled looking blue tit. I bet it sits there and starts tossing everything out of the feeder in preferential search for the sunflower hearts.

A blue tit!

The ones visiting our feeder tend to not linger but instead just grab some food and fly back to cover. But we also get visited by goldfinches, greenfinches, great tits, robins and hedge sparrows (also known as dunnocks), so the feeder is usually quite busy.

This has stopped for a maximum time of a minute or so, just long enough to get the camera switched on and focused.
