The laserdisc player I got yesterday has a weird 9 pin female output (looks like a 9-pin serial port) which apparently has the following connections:

pin 1 gnd
pin 2 gnd
pin 3 red
pin 4 green
pin 5 blue
pin 6 NC
pin 7 NC
pin 8 CVBS
pin 9 PAL/NTSC toogle (PAL=hi, NTSC= low)

My original thought was that it was something like the EGA standard, but that doesn't seem to be it. Out of curiosity, would it be possible to feed this to e.g. an RGB SCART lead without complicated electronics, or is it only supported by some weird and wonderful display?

Reason for asking is that while laserdiscs are always composite colour, it's possible the filter in the player (which separates the composite into RGB etc.) is better than my TV's filter, it would be nice to find out.

I expect so.

Connect RGB to scart's RGB it's likely to by 1v p-p. And the CVBS to composite video In. Connect grounds as appropriate.

Thanks! What about the PAL/NTSC toggle, just omit that connection?

Um. If you happy with NTSC connect to ground, other wise you need to pull it up (probably to 5v ), so I'd suggest through a 10K resistor.

Arguably it might be 3.3v system but I think the laser disc player is old enough to assume 5v. Although you know what they say about making assumptions.

I've managed to find the full servicing manual on line, it's here

http://www.dragons-lair-project.com/tech/manuals/ld-v4300dServiceManual.pdf

There's an output graph for an NTSC test disc about half way through, everything seems to go to +1v or +1.3v, with minimums of -9V on C.SYNC, -0.6v on the other terminals. Does that seem reasonable for a 1V setup?
