It looks like Jack the Ripper has been identified by DNA evidence. And it's probably someone you've never heard of, unless you're a hard-core Ripper expert!

Not entirely happy with the train of evidence here, but it's more convincing than any other "proof" I've seen.

My first thought of it is how many other DNA traces can be found on that shawl. Eddowes was an active prostitute and there could be traces of several men on her.

Yes, Kosminski was one of the suspects from the time (been interested in the case since my teens) but the whole story of the copper taking it home to give to his wife is dubious in the extreem. He's a better bet than the usual parade of celebrity but I'd still be happier of the DNA came from someting in the Black Museum.

If he could produce a direct link between Eddowes, the From Hell letter and Kosminski the I may think he has a case.

Well yes, the whole "blame it on immigrants" thing isn't exactly new. It just seems to be somewhat better evidence than I've seen before.

Wasn't aware of the book, but I'd agree it's fairly dodgy evidence, just slightly better than none.
