Private Eye magazine has an advert for a "Personal Weather Forecaster", basically a mini weather station measuring things like winds speed, rainfall, etc. It claims to offer "all the weather data you'll ever need."

I've been thinking of getting something like this, though more in terms of something linked to the computer network in the school, but I thought I noticed something missing. So I looked at the specification carefully then phoned up and asked about wind direction. A long awkward silence ensued. I somehow doubt they'll be selling many to weather forecasters. Or yachtsmen. Or golfers. Or...

Just a reminder that if you're planning to go to the 2005 Worldcon in Glasgow the online room booking service is already up and running. I suspect that some of the cheaper rooms (especially university accommodation) will go pretty quickly - booked mine today, and I know I wasn't the only one.

This has been a public service announcement on behalf of not wanting people to end up sleeping on the streets because they can't afford any of the remaining rooms...
