I was in Portobello Road yesterday and noticed that one of the screws holding my glasses together was working loose. So I went into the Poundland store there hoping they might have spectacle repair kits or a set of jeweller's screwdrivers - they sell a fairly good range of tools. Couldn't find either of them, but eventually did find a rather nice alternative - a miniature ratchet screwdriver with interchangeable bits. For a pound you get the handle and six bits - Philips 0 and 1, Pozidrive 0 and 1, and 1.5mm and 2.5mm flat blades, the smaller one just about the right size for glasses.

This isn't by any means a complete replacement for the usual miniature screwdrivers set, but it works and it's a good complement to a full-sized ratchet driver.

I wanted an image of a small shuttle craft for Titan - not a spaceship, more of a VTOL people carrier, named Opis after Saturn's wife. It's going to be a tiny picture, about half the page wide and seven lines of text high. It's not even important, the odds are that the adventurers will never go near the damned thing.

The starting point was a small picture of a motorbike with an extreme fairing based on the drop tank from a Korean-war vintage fighter. That gave me the hull and windscreen. Removed the wheels, added a hatch, ladder, logo, wings from a Jet Provost, model aircraft landing skids, and some Edwardian polar explorers. Fiddled around with it. A lot.

The bastard took me two and a half fricking hours! And I'm still not 100% happy with it, but I think enough is enough, it's reached the point where more fiddling around will make it worse.

Update - here's another that corrects the missing shadows - I'm an idiot...

What would "From Venus With Love" be in French? I don't trust any of the translation sites and my French is virtually non-existent.

One of seven films I'm inventing for the Weinbaum game...

Later According to a native French speaker on the [livejournal.com profile] little_details community, Bon Baisers de Vénus is the nearest idiomatic translation that has the ambiguity I want. It's not really important to the plot (it's basically a little something for background detail that may never even be used) so I'll go with it.
