ffutures: (both snakes)
[personal profile] ffutures
Actually two separate things, I hasten to add. Though it'd make an interesting story...

Got an e-mail today saying that the Veronica Mars S1 DVD is finally shipping, ought to get it in a week or so. Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't this originally announced for October?

And saw the episode of CSI last night in which one of the bodies had been eaten then regurgitated by a snake, which was later found dead for various reasons. Am I alone in (a) feeling sorry for the snake and (b) saying "are you kidding" when I saw the ridiculously small size of the snake compared to the victim. A snake large enough to do the damage shown would be at least 15-20 ft, this one was about 6-8ft long.

Later edit - sorry, CSI: Miami

I didn't see CSI, but had you seen this story about a 13ft python eating a 6ft alligator (both of them dying)?

Yup. But the snake didn't even swallow the whole thing.

Yeah it did. You may be confused by some of the pics you've seen, but it swallowed it and -then- burst open.

But as far as the CSI thing goes... I'm sure that's the snake they could wrangle for the show. Maybe their guts fabricator could only make a 8ft snake!

Here's a good pic:

Click on the picture and you'll get a bigger one. It swallowed it whole and then burst.

Thanks - not the same picture I've seen before. That's a BIG snake, remind me not to swim in Florida...

It is the same picture I linked to.

Didn't realise it was a link - I really ought to change my defaults to make them more obvious.

I think the snake in question swallowed a Pomeranian, not a person.

Actually, I'm confused by what episode you saw.

Sorry, CSI: Miami, not CSI. The one with the subplot about identity theft and the main plot about animals being used to smuggle drugs.

This very neatly explains my confusion.

Veronica Mars was due out on Oct 11th. It's been out in the States for a while, so I assume that was the correct shipping date.

What about you? I think we ordered around the same time, didn't we?

I have to say that largely I don't like CSI: Miami as I find it emphasises visual style over plot. New York is starting to get my attention but Vegas will always be my favorite, maybe because it's the first and it set expectation levels. I do think that Vegas plots tend to be structured better and I've yet to have that feeling that I've been asked to take a leap of faith that they have the right answer, unlike Miami where that seems to be the norm.

The thing I hate about Miami is Horatio Caine - a narrow-minded hypocrite who would not be above bending the law if it would jail someone he disliked.

SNAP

I didn't like David Caruso when he was in NYPD Blue and never saw why he was a supposed heart-throb. On the other hand I've liked William Petersen since I first saw Manhunter. On that subject I preferred Brian Cox to Anthony Hopkins as Hannibal Lecktor/Lecter though I suspect I'm a minority of one there.

Well that's my prejudices out in the open.

Much as I dislike Horatio, I don't think that's entirely fair. I suspect he'd have to believe someone actually did something wrong, but once he does settle on a suspect he really doesn't care how he puts them away.

Anyway, I rarely watch CSI:Miami since I find myself laughing every time the Sunglass of Justice come out.

I watched the Veronica Mars first season on DVDs a few weeks ago, without having seen them before on broadcast TV. Unfortunately, I was rather disappointed. There was clever writing, sure, but somehow it just wasn't engaging. I suspect that at 35 I am officially burned out on highschool and the less I hear about it, the better. That would also explain why I didn't much like the Kim Possible cartoons.

I enjoyed VM a lot - not so sure about the 2nd season, but the first was entertaining enough for me to buy the DVD.
