Worldcon room bookings have opened, and I've booked a student room at Trinity College - it's close to the venue and cheaper than any hotel they're offering, but I don't think it includes breakfast etc. There probably are cheaper alternatives, but I really don't like the idea of boarding houses or dorms, so this will do.

Now I have to think about flights. Anyone know of any good deals?

When I went to the Dublin Eurocon in 2014, I decided to go by train and boat, which was interesting. Might have been easier if I hadn't just accepted the post of European agent for Sasquan and ended up taking in my luggage a whole load of promotional material plus a cash box. And it turned out there wasn't an ATM at the ferry terminal and I didn't have enough euros to pay for a taxi. Had to cadge a lift from another fan.

The return journey was worse. Heavy winds meant that a larger ferry was put on the route. (It was called the Ulysses and had bars and cafes named after characters in the book.) This got in two hours late which meant I missed all my train connections coming home.

Speaking to Pat and Vernon Brown at Novacon that year and they said they ended up spending the night at Holyhead station.

Despite all that, I'm still thinking about taking the train this year. The ferry terminal is quite close to the convention centre, but I've booked into a hotel a couple of kilometres further on.

I prefer train travel to air travel.
