I Can Has Heat Now!

Central heating boiler was replaced today - total time about 5 hours. This did NOT include replacing all the gas pipes; the fitter took a look, checked the specification of the boiler, and said that what I have would be OK. A huge relief  because the replacement would have meant taking apart a pipe duct in the shared front hall of the house, one of my kitchen units, the kitchen floor, the carpet and boards in the hall (carpet needs replacing anyway, but I really didn't want to do it a few days after replacing the boiler!), and part of the bathroom floor which has lino tiles over plywood over VERY bad old floorboards... Fortunately it isn't necessary.

And as if by magic the temperature in London is much warmer today - the boiler switched off after about an hour and I don't think it has been on much since then. Place seems warm enough, so I'm going to give it a day or two to get used to it before I start trying to tweak settings, since the instruction manual for the timer/thermostat shows a ridiculous number of options and does not explain them incredibly well.

So far it's very good - the flat feels warm again, and it's working much better than the old one for hot water in the kitchen and bathroom - had a nice long shower today without the water pressure dropping or turning cold.

Yes, it did - only noticed the weather in the loo, which doesn't have its own radiator.
