I want to use my iBook as an audio oscilloscope, using a VERY nice freeware program called AudioXplorer, but it doesn't have a normal audio input jack and the built-in microphone is too insensitive.

You can get a USB gadget called an iMic that adds audio ports, but it seems slightly overkill for what I want to do. Anyone know a cheaper alternative?

This, maybe. I've got the corresponding headset, and it's pretty good.

Thanks, there's a couple coming up tonight on eBay, I'll see if I can get one.

I used a $20 turntable and iMic to rip those albums for you. iMic is handy... it's under $30 here. How little do you want to spend?

I got one of those microphones for nine pounds inc. P&P, it'll do for what I want. If I need to do something more elaborate I may end up getting an iMic, they seem to be around on eBay at about seventeen quid including postage, but for the moment I'm just playing with an idea.
