For tree lovers...
Mar. 7th, 2025 07:22 pmA big online map of London trees (815,916 of them on streets and some public areas; private gardens etc. and the parks aren't covered) was pointed out by
vicarage this evening; basically you can zoom in, click on the trees to see what they are, and see a Google street view of the tree in question, etc.. Rather a lot of London Plane Trees, of course, but it does bring home just how many trees there are, and why they have to send out street cleaning vans so often in autumn. And if you're allergic to a particular type you will know to steer clear of them...
Later - Forgot to say that several boroughs aren't covered yet, and that there if you check the "about" box at the top of the first screen it says that the correct total for London including parks, gardens etc. is more like eight million.
