The Eureka DVDs arrived today in what I think I can only describe as the stupidest packaging I've ever seen. Basically a folding three disk holder with the disk holding plastic some sort of blue expanded foam, not the usual rigid black or clear stuff, inside a cardboard sleeve cunningly designed to leave the top and bottom open and exposed to the dust. The whole thing was shrink-wrapped and the pressure of the wrapping has squashed it into a sort of rhombus shape

The label says "Made in Eureka, this packaging is 100% recyclable and made from 80% post consumer product. The DVD trays are 100% biodegradable and made from a combination of starch, cellulose, and water (commonly known as potatoes)"

All well and good, but if it doesn't actually work very well as a DVD box a lot of the point is lost, because I'll probably have to transfer them to a plastic case.

The contents look interesting
- Disk 1 give you the pilot and first two episodes, plus commentaries for the pilot, deleted scenes with commentary, outtake with commentary, webisodes, podcasts, and "Made in Eureka Mock Infomercials"
- disk 2 has episodes 4-8 and some podcasts
- disk 3 has episodes 9-12 plus podcasts and outtake with commentary.

So it looks like it'll be fun, I just wish that they'd designed the packaging a bit better.

That is almost as bad as the Dune miniseries which is a loose bundle of plastic DVD cases without lids and similar to the Sliders box which is a piece of foam with the DVD's stuck in it in a slip box with one side plastic and one outer side cardboard.
