...is Google Docs for?

The maximum file sizes are tiny, and it turns out that just as I'm moving away from HTML towards publishing all my games stuff as PDF, they don't let you upload PDF.

The reason this is now a concern is that I nearly have the first chunk of FF X - the introduction and biology section - ready to go out to playtesters, once Jo Walton has had a look at it, and I was hoping that GD would be a good way to do it. So it's probably going to be boring old password-limited access from my web site again. So it goes.

If google docs would just stretch to 2Mb per file, I'd be switching over to using it as my main writing tool (along with their distro of tools that includes a copy of StarOffice with an "upload to google docs" menu option).

As it is, their upper file size is about 50% the size of a typical novel. Bah, humbug.

So the file size is 1MB? That seems small, given that you can have more than that attached to a Google email…

What stops one from changing the extension manually from pdf to ppt? Apart from the inconvenience of forcing users to change it back if they want to use the file, I mean.

I suspect that they have systems in place to make sure that you can't. They probably check the internal file structure when you upload it.

I'm curious about why the different limits. Most of my documents are approaching 10 MB, once you include the illustrations. Why would they be acceptable as presentations but not as documents?

Given how well Google did with gmail, this is really puzzling…

I don't think it started out as a Google service - maybe they just haven't got around to changing the size limits yet.
