Psst.... want some used memory, effendi?

I've now pulled two 184-pin DIMMs from my PC - 256MB DDR, 266, CL2

I was hoping that they'd fit the machine I use at work but they aren't compatible.

It probably isn't worth trying to sell them on eBay, so does anyone here need one or both? Free, but you'll have to pay postage (which I think will have to be UK only) and a contribution to charity would be appreciated.

to be honest, I think you'll be very surprised what people can sell on ebay. There are always people out there looking for out of date hardware to keep their old legacy systems running sweet.

at an old company they threw away 24 rolls of out-dated "postage machine red printer tapes". I took them home and turned them into almost £100 paypal pounds.

I don't think that there was ever a size smaller than 256 MB in that type of DIMM, so anyone who wants them is probably going to want to upgrade a 256MB machine to 512MB. But a 1GB DIMM for 25 quid would be the way most people would go these days.

See if a CEX shop will take them. They won't pay much but if the money's going to charity it's better than nothing. Another alternative that doesn't cost you anything to try is uk.adverts.computer. Don't ask silly money or even just ask for offers and someone might well buy them off you.

CEX is a good idea - there's one in Tottenham Court Road, I'll give them a try. Ought to be along next weekend.
