Just wondered



Is Mutant Enemy totally incapable of writing a combat injury scene that doesn't involve someone being stabbed in the guts? What's wrong with a nice head wound or something, it'd make a change...

Giles ought to be a vegetable, that's for sure. I think we have to take it as a "given" of the Buffyverse that head wounds are never lethal, unless you're an ancient wizard punched out by an angry goddess.

I think the reasoning is that gut wounds can leave you conscious long enough to deliver a meaningful speech or a retaliatory blow, whereas movie/TV headwounds tend to result in unconsciousness. Hence, if you want a teary-eyed farewell - gut wound.

Yes, that sounds like the explanation, should have realised. I suppose a dying speech is more interesting than dying in your sleep or screaming in agony...
