Annoying...

Since I'm writing the fanfic game I've added the word fanfic to Word's dictionary. But for some reason every time I type it Word insists on capitalising it, presumably because it thinks it's a name. It isn't showing up as an error if I put it back to lower case, but I'll probably use the word quite a few times - I really don't want to keep converting it manually. Anyone got any idea how I persuade it to leave it lower case?

Assuming you're not using version 2007....

- From the Tools menu, select the Options choice.
- If it's not already selected, bring the Spelling & Grammar tab to the front.
- Select the Custom Dictionaries button.
- There will be one or more .DIC files listed, probably only CUSTOM.DIC. Select each of these in succession, clicking the Modify button.
- Scroll through the alphabetical list of words contained within the .DIC file and look for Fanfic. Use the Delete button to clear it out.
- Back your way out to the document you're editing, find an instance of the word "fanfic" with no capital letter, and add it to the spelling checker.

Thanks! That seems to have done the trick.

Actually it didn't in the end. For some reason it was in autocorrect too, so I had to delete it there.

I was going to bring that up next if my first suggestion didn't work :)
