Flash replacements for laptop drives

ffuturesJust occurred to me to wonder if anyone sells flash replacements for older laptop disk drives. It's not that long since the standard laptop drive was only a couple of gigs, a flash replacement with say 16gb might be a cost-effective way to add capacity and increase battery life.
