Asteroid images

Couple of pictures for the Weinbaum RPG - these are fairly small captures, they will be a bit bigger in the game.

This first combines several orbit traces image I got from "Planets", a really old DOS program. This won't be appearing in the game as such.



The second is what I ended up with when I took the first image and created ellipses over the orbits with Corel Draw, then added in the Trojans. These are positions for January 2115, incidentally.



And the third is the sizes of the asteroids and some Postscript cratering



Anything look horribly wrong?

later Might replace the moon picture with one of the 500mm lens shots I took last year.

How did you arrive at the sizes for Pallas and Vesta? In real life they're sufficiently similar in size that I'm surprised one can see the difference here -- in two of three axes the real bodies are almost exactly the same.

I went by the dimension that was different and probably exaggerated the difference a bit too much - that's easily changed

The orbits diagram is a bit crowded making it difficult to distinguish the separate orbits of the planets and asteroids. Colour might help in this case, or an increase in size. The position of Ceres is ambiguous -- which of the two orbit ellispes is it actually on? The Juno and Pallas positions and labels could be moved around the diagram to make them clearer and easier to read -- you don't have to go with the "PLANETS" diagram locations, assuming you're not pinpointing the various bodies locations at a particular date and time in your diagram.

There should be public-domain pictures of the asteroids you can use for the scale sizes diagram if you want to use your own Moon photos.

I am trying to show a specific date; the base date for adventures is 2115. Agree that Ceres is a little ambiguous, I'll have to work on that.

OK, fixed that and the placement of Vesta which was also a little unclear, and I'll try colour coding orbits to make things a bit more obvious.
