Enjoying myself - the best panel I've been to so far has been about female superheroes ([livejournal.com profile] rozk, Paul Cornell, Esther Freisner, and a couple of others) bujt was way too early at 9 AM today.

Took out presupporting membership in the London Worldcon bid for 2014

It looks like a credible bid and the site is the London Excel centre, which is huge and is currently adding a lot more convention / conference facilities and accommodation for the Olympics. There currently don't seem to be any other bids for 2014, and I was rather too young for the last one in London which I think was 1965, so it definitely gets my vote.

I talked to a friend who's a book dealer. Some things you might want to take on board:

Analogs for those years are pretty common, and most people who collect them at all will have them, except possibly for an issue or two they need to fill gaps.

He typically sells them at a pound an issue or ten pounds for a whole year. There is no market at all for whole collections, people simply don't buy them that way.

He didn't sell any at all at the last Australian worldcon.

You should really think about this very carefully, since you're likely to be disappointed if you try to sell them as a single lot.

You may be right - tomorrow I'm going to contact a guy locally who can advise me (a book valuer/professional archivist who is a big SF fan). He's probably going to be going to the con and if he advises against it then I'll probably let it drop. If he thinks it's worthwhile he may be prepared to be an agent. It's long overdue that I got them valued for my house & contents insurance anyway!
