I went to vote before going in to work today, since I'm going out tonight. Last time I was there around 7.45 and there was a queue of three or four at most. This time I got there at eight and there was a line of 20-30 people across the hall and out into the lobby. Fortunately it doesn't take long to show your poll card and get the ballot papers, and I was still out within ten minutes or so, so I wasn't late for work.

I don't know if this is actually significant - the difference in time may be the main factor - but it looks encouraging for a high turnout, which ought to be a good thing.

Spoke to the guys on the door on my way out after voting, and they said the turnout was a lot higher than normal. One of them even compared it to 1997. Certainly, I met a lot more people going in and out than I normally do.

There was one person voting at my polling station as I went in at 07:20 and I was on my own when I left, but then I live in the green and pleasant bit so it could just be nobody was up yet :-)

Just got an update and there was 'a steady stream of old dears' at my local one late morning.

There were quite a few people at my polling station, too, at 9:45, when most people are already at work, so it would be interesting to see what the turnout will be.

There were about half a dozen of us queuing at our polling station when it opened this morning, more than last general election at that time.
