Just got myself a 17" LCD monitor to replace the old 17" CRT monitor, which has a bad case of jerky picture and I suspect is not worth repairing.

Rapidly discovered that the settings I was using for the old monitor came out as painfully bright on this one, while restoring the graphics card defaults gave me a better picture that I can ever remember seeing on the old display. So much so that I've gone from 1024x768 to 1280x1024.

Not cheap, but definitely worth it. The only problem is that I'm so used to looking at a curved screen that this one looks concave...

I love the clarity of my LCD screen at work, but I have noticed that if I am on the computer without a break for more than two hours, I have trouble reading. The same level of eyestrain seemed to take longer on a CRT monitor, but I may just be hallucinating that. :)

Thats largely down to the refresh rate you have set on your monitor. I use an LCD at work and at home now and I've not had an unexplained headache in months.

It's so much brighter and more contrasty than my old display that I suspect it may well be a bit too much. I'm going to try turning both down a little, see how that works.

I've been using LCDs at work for several years and haven't had any problems except noticing that they don't handle video games as well as CRT monitors do. Oh yeah occassionaly I do have to tilt the monitor down on a website with a dark background like Twisting the Hellmouth's forums in order to see it well. LCDs seem to catch the light in a different manner than CRTs.

Don't really play video games, and I'm not using the default skins at TTH, so no problems so far.
