Alternatives to YouTube

I posted a video on youtube, only to find that Google created a Google+ account for me. Since I don't want a Google+ account I've deleted the account, and of course the video is now inaccessible.

Is there any alternative to YouTube that doesn't involve this sort of idiocy?

Not as far as I know. Google, gmail, youtube - they're all the same account. If you don't want to use the google+ or gmail, don't, that's really all there is to it. You could go try myspace video, vimeo, yahoo! screen, veoh, ustream or vevo or something maybe.

Sorry, I am not entirely sure on which has no problems ;) I just know of them as other video sites. I haven't heard many complaints. Glad to know Vimeo seems to be okay for you so far though.

Basically I just wanted to upload one video - I may eventually do more, but it won't be any time soon.

I noticed this the other day, I tried to leave a comment on somebodies video for the first time in, oh, years. And it required me to log into about 5 different google services and create an account with something else before it would let me leave a one sentence comment.

Gave up in the end. As you say, absolute idiocy.

I updated Google Earth, only to discover that when you run it that it needs to install a kernel extension that calls home to Google to get (and automatically install) software updates — and that there is no easy way to uninstall this extension.

So I no longer have Google Earth.

It's become more than a little bit creepy. I mean presumably they insisted on logging in with a verified ID so that they could track and store everything I watched or what I left in comment form, etc, etc? And I guess the Google Earth software probably records where people look at, for how long, and all that jazz.

Definitely creepy - I'm pretty much committed to using Gmail but don't want to use anything else, and it's becoming a real problem keeping it that way.

Yeah, the google mail thing makes me uneasy too. But, the trade off on having an automated online backup of all of my email is worth it still. Just.

I just deleted all the data out of the google + account it created for me. Now everything else works fine & my G+ account comes up as suspended which is fine by me.

Okay - I think the account it created was Marcus.rowland; how do I check if it's suspended?

Try to access G+. If it's suspended, a message will come up saying it's suspended.

It's asking me to create a profile. OK, is there any way someone who isn't a G+ user can check if that account exists?
