...was good fun, and the story worked well, especially when it became clear what was going on. And had some wonderful bits of metafiction in it.

Worth seeing - I hope the new series will be as good.

I really enjoyed the metafiction, and the running commentary by the characters on being characters in Watson's Strand Magazine stories. I really like the dialogue, the music, and the visuals.

It's not until I think about it afterwards that I get really annoyed about its knowingly patronizing treatment of women, both as in plot and dialogue and as characters.

I enjoyed it, but I'm not sure that it ever became totally clear to me what was going on. This isn't unusual for me with programmes that Steven Moffat writes or co-writes. I sometimes have the uncomfortable feeling that senility may be setting in earlier than it should!

It's not senility: it's Moffat being careless. His tendency to dangle things in front of the audience and then never properly resolve them is deeply annoying. He seems never to have heard of the Law of Chekov's Gun.
