They've always looked like upturned 30 gallon trash buckets to me. Do they at least kill the Doctor right away, as soon as they see him? That would impress me.
I was ten the first time I saw the Daleks on TV, and they scared the shit out of me. If they don't look even vaguely scary to me, they've lost it completely.
Re the Doctor - No, they still have a bad tendency to monologue before shooting.
