I've now uploaded an ePub version of The Struggle for Empire. Please let me know if you have any problems with it

Forgotten Futures 12 was to have been based on The Struggle For Empire - A Story of the Year 2236 (1900), a short novel by Robert William Cole that appears to be the first example of military SF actually set in space. For a lot of reasons that never happened. I originally intended to put the book and some of the other material I'd prepared for this setting on line, but somehow never got round to it.

Recently I was reminded of this, and after 12+ years I've finally got round to finishing the PDF version of the book. I should eventually add HTML and ePub versions, and set up a page for this and some of the other material I intended to use in the RPG - but for now here's a link to the novel. If you read this and spot anything that looks like a typo please let me know!

This is a short-term bundle for a game that hasn't been offered before - Etherscope, which is an AU steampunk/cyberpunk setting for D20 mordern rules assuming a change in technology in the 19th century but set in the late 20th after some VERY different and rather grimdark history. It's only going to be available until Friday April 15th:

Etherscope )

This is one that interests me a lot, given my own ventures into Victorian- and Edwardian-inspired alternate history, and seems to be put together pretty well. It has some nice features including "printer friendly" versions of some of the books. I'd probably want to run it using the Forgotten Futures rules, but I can't see any obvious problems. It's also very cheap. Recommended!

Another repeat offer, this time on a topic of interest to me - Victoriana, a Victorian-era fantasy/steampunk RPG:

Victoriana )

Last time it was included in an offer with some other Victorian era RPGs and I said: As may be obvious from my own work, I'm interested in the genre; Victoriana has a reputation as a good solid (if somewhat grim) RPG, the games in the other collection are mostly new to me and look quite interesting. I think that they're worth a look if you like mighty throbbing brass engines, reciprocating pistons, towering chimney stacks and every other vaguely metaphorical image I can crowd into this sentence. But as usual I have to remind you that I get this stuff free if I want it, if you pay for it your mileage may vary.

I don't think I need to change that.

Having corrected rather a lot of errors, my HTML version of D'Ordel's Pantechnicon, an essential read for anyone interested in Victorian and Edwardian magazines is now on line as

http://www.forgottenfutures.com/pantech/pant1.htm

PLEASE let me know if you find any errors - I don't have links to it yet on my site, that'll come once I'm happy it's OK.

I hope to add a PDF of scans of the original book in a day or two.

Fanfic writers and RPG designers will probably find the later chapters especially interesting, especially Of the Serial Adventure and Of the Recital of Military Slaughter, and of Events affecting the Royal Blood

Later: May not be posting the PDF right away - it's 44mb! I'll have to see if I can tweak it to get the file size down without making it illegible.
